IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WSBE STUDENTS PLANNING TO STUDY ABROAD IN FALL 2008
Whittemore School of Business and Economics’ (WSBE) Policy and Procedures Regarding Obtaining Transfer of Credits from Study Abroad
Subject to approval of each individual course, students may transfer
- Up to 30% of the coursework for their major, and
- Up to 50% of the coursework for their option.
In total, WSBE students may transfer no more than 50% of their major coursework from domestic and study abroad programs combined. In general, students must have all international coursework approved in advance.
The procedure for transfer credit approval is as follows: (Please note that you will need to meet with your WSBE Advisor 2 times to complete the process for Study Abroad.)
- Student obtains course descriptions and syllabi (if possible) of all international coursework to be considered for UNH and/or WSBE credit. All materials submitted for review must be in English.
- Student schedules appointment to meet with WSBE Academic Advisor in WSBE Undergraduate Programs office, McConnell 120. Discuss with your Advisor your study abroad interests, potential courses and overall academic plans. Bring study abroad application and materials.
- Also at the above meeting, student presents course descriptions and syllabi to WSBE Advisor and fills out appropriate paperwork to have materials evaluated. WSBE Undergraduate Programs will have materials evaluated by the appropriate academic department regarding whether or not a course(s) will count towards the major and option. (It may take one to two weeks for a department to evaluate the course descriptions.)
- WSBE Undergraduate Programs will notify a student when the department returns the course evaluation forms to the office. Once notified, student must schedule second appointment to meet with WSBE Advisor and bring Study Abroad Credit Prior Approval Form to appointment (form should be filled out prior to your meeting with Advisor). If a course was evaluated as being approved, the WSBE Advisor will note this on the form and sign the form. Student will then follow CIE process regarding the form.
- Following the study abroad experience, the Center for International Education (CIE) will be the first to receive the student’s transcript from abroad. CIE will forward the transcript to the UNH Registrar. The courses on the transcript that were pre-approved according to the above process will be applied to the student’s record. A grade of C or above is required to have the course transfer to UNH. Courses with grades below C will not be transferred back to UNH. After the Registrar’s office records the student’s grades and credits, they will send a copy of the transcript to the WSBE Undergraduate Programs office.
Dates of WSBE Academic Advising for Study Abroad
It is recommended that students interested in studying abroad in Fall Semester 2008 schedule your appointment with a WSBE Academic Advisor as soon as possible.
Dates WSBE Undergraduate Programs has reserved specifically for WSBE study abroad advising:
- Any date prior to March 15, 2008
- April 4, 2008
- April 29, 2008 or later.
Please note these are NOT walk-in situations and students must schedule an appointment to meet with a WSBE Advisor regarding study abroad. Students can stop into McConnell 120 anytime to schedule an appointment or may call 862-3885.
The specific dates above have been reserved to assist WSBE students with the study abroad process. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have scheduled your appointments in time to complete everything needed to meet CIE’s deadlines.
WSBE Academic Advisors are happy to work with you and help you with your planning for study abroad, as studying abroad is a great opportunity. However, you are expected to do your part and be responsible for the information in the study abroad handouts you receive from CIE by neatly and completely filling out necessary paperwork and by coming PREPARED to an appointment having READ ALL STUDY ABROAD MATERIALS prior.
Bring all the study abroad materials to each appointment, such as the abroad program information, booklets, syllabi, course descriptions and forms. Also, you should utilize WEBCAT ahead of time to review your academic transcript, the general education list and the writing intensive list—all available on line.
If a student arrives for an appointment and is not appropriately prepared, he or she will be required to schedule another appointment for one of the other WSBE study abroad dates.
